Barnsley fans have slated Aapo Halme, after he made his debut following signing from Leeds United.
Leeds opted to let Halme go earlier in the summer, and the decision was heavily questioned by many of the Elland Road crowd.
Leeds fans felt that Halme’s departure left them short of options at centre-back, especially after Ben White was their only defensive recruit of the summer.
However, Halme’s debut for Barnsley may have highlighted why Marcelo Bielsa had reservations over utilising the aerially commanding centre-back.
Halme really struggled for Barnsley last night, as they were beaten 3-0 by Carlisle United in the Carabao Cup.
The young defender gave away a penalty in the first-half, and never looked comfortable throughout.
And the reaction to Halme’s showing may well show why Leeds were willing to let him go.
Halme. Worst debut I’ve ever seen.— Tom (@TomMcAllisterr) August 13, 2019
As debuts go Halme so far has been a disaster. If he’d come free in a Happy Meal I’d say no thanks. Saying that, barring Collins and Styles everyone else has been bang average to garbage.— Adam (@Whitehead1986) August 13, 2019
Halme...oh dear, not writing the lad off or anything at all, but that first 45 was not good for him. Need them all to pick up the pace in the second half, actually press. Also stop watering the effing pitch, it's sodden @BarnsleyFC !! #bfc— Rose ️ (@zbear1990) August 13, 2019
He's had a bit of a mare that half, but given he needs game time and the midfield are giving him and Mads zero balls out it's not surprising really. Keeper looks solid, which is a bonus.— John Taylor (@john00taylor) August 13, 2019
First half has been good apart from a silly mistake at back. Exactly the same as sheff wed. But no destispect to the lad but I don’t think Halme is good enough just yet but he’ll get there in time just don’t loose faith in him— Barnsley Fan TV (@reds_tour) August 13, 2019

A debut for Aapo Halme to forget.— Elliott Jackson (@_ElliottJackson) August 13, 2019
The defender lets a pass run through his legs back to his goalkeeper, only for Harry McKirby to nick in and prod the ball past a helpless Brad Collins.
The upset is on!
I’d send that Halme straight back to Leeds based on tonight’s performance probably worst home debut I’ve seen at Oakwell— Matt........C (@Matt_Charlo) August 13, 2019
While Barnsley were beaten 3-0 by their lower league opponents in the cup, Leeds progressed comfortably.
Bielsa’s men cruised past Salford City to set up a second round tie with Stoke City.
