Spanish striker Adrian Balboa isn’t going to be playing Championship football for Leeds United any time soon.
Things have been a little rocky for Adrian Balboa at Leeds United.
Two years after the young striker moved to Elland Road from UD Unificacion in Catalonia, he is still awaiting his first-team debut in the famous White shirt. And it seems unlikely that Balboa will punch his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans any time soon.
The signing of Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal could be, ahem, a knockout blow.
Now, according to Cope, the 21-year-old is now set to seal a return to Spain with a loan move to Lorca FC, a Murcia-based, third tier outfit.
The report claims that Balbao is awaiting confirmation from Leeds before he can be unveiled by Lorca, who recently announced former Birmingham City and Deportivo la Coruna striker Walter Pandiani as their new coach.
“I am convinced that with Pandiani we will achieve the goal,” Balboa told Cope. We can only assume that ‘goal’ is promotion back to the second division after Lorca were relegated from the Segunda in 2018. If the deal is concluded quickly, Balboa could make his debut for Lorca in the Federation Cup on Saturday.
He still has another three years left on his contract at Leeds United but, at 21, you have to wonder whether Balboa is at risk of missing the boat. After all, ‘the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows’.
