The Toffees were always going to push for a new striker signing, as Oumar Niasse and Cenk Tosun simply aren't good enough and Dominic Calvert-Lewin isn't quite the clinical striker they need.
A number of centre forwards have been linked with Everton in recent months, but they managed to pull off one of their most ambitious moves yet under Brands.
After some haggling, Everton managed to convince Juventus to sell teenage sensation Kean, and the deal doesn't even include a buy-back clause for the Turin giants.
Kean, 19, hit six league goals for Juventus last season, but when you factor in that just five of his 13 appearances came as a starter, you begin to see why he's so highly rated.
The Italian should lead the Everton line for years to come, and whilst Juventus do have first option on him in the future, Toffees fans are hugely excited about him.
Kean came off the bench to make his Everton debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, and he's praised Everton director of football Brands following his move to Goodison Park.
Kean has admitted that he likes Brands' ideas and objectives, feeling that they're actually very similar in what they want and where they see the future heading at Everton.
“I met Marcel (Brands) first,” said Kean. “I like his ideas, his objectives. We are very similar in this and we have the same views about a lot of things,” he added, suggesting a bright future is on the horizon for the duo.
That should be hugely exciting for Everton fans, as Kean's ultimate objective will be cracking the top six or even the top four with the Toffees, and he wouldn't have left Juventus without having that kind of ambition communicated to him.
Having Brands and Kean on the same page - even if they won't be working all that closely on a day to day basis - bodes well for the future both on and off the pitch, and may be a sign that more ambitious signings can be landed in the future.
