Fans have been mourning the loss of singer Joe Longthorne who succumbed to a long-running illness earlier this month.
It's never an easy thing, mourning the loss of a well-loved celebrity. We certainly won't be forgetting the infamous year of 2016 any time soon when so many huge names in the film, TV and music industry departed this world.
More recently, the entertainment world has been mourning the loss of British singing sensation Joe Longthorne MBE who finally succumbed to a long-running illness.
Fans lined the streets of the singer and impressionist's home town of Hull on August 12th to offer their respects and sympathies as part of a special precession to commemorate the late singer's life.
Who was Joe Longthorne?
For those who may not be all too familiar with Joe Longthorne, the Hull-born entertainer was a singer and impressionist who rose to fame in the 1980s.
His big break came as a result of an appearance on the London Weekend Television series Search For a Star in 1981.
Following on from his first TV appearance, Longthorne went on to appear in several television shows including his own, titled The Joe Longthorne Show which hit the airwaves in 1988.
Aside from performances on TV, Longthorne also made several appearances on the Royal Variety Performance.
His singing career resulted in 19 albums over several decades, three of which became platinum-selling.
Longthorne's history with illness
As far back as 1989, Joe Longthorne was diagnosed with lymphoma which eventually deteriorated into leukaemia which required a bone marrow transplant in 2005.
More recently, Longthorne's battle with cancer took another twist as he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014.
After a long-running illness with these various types of cancer, Joe Longthorne finally succumbed and was found dead at his Blackpool home on August 3rd, 2019. He was aged 64.
Joe Longthorne's funeral
On Monday, August 12th, a special procession was organised to allow fans of the late entertainer to offer their respects and sympathies.
The procession took place in the singer's childhood hometown of Hull where a number of fans gathered to mark the passing of Joe Longthorne.
However, Joe Longthorne's funeral is set to take place on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019, in the singer's adopted hometown of Blackpool and is believed to be a private affair.
