Reading forward Danny Loader has admitted in an emotional Instagram post that he still has ambitions of playing at the highest level possible after seeing a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers collapse on transfer deadline day.
On Thursday last week, one of the most exciting English talents in the Championship appeared to be on his way to Molineux.
According to the Express and Star, Loader was set for a medical ahead of a move to Premier League high-flyers Wolves. But Reading moved the goal-posts at the last minute, increasing the 18-year-old’s price-tag and causing the deal to fall through.
Royals boss Jose Gomes admitted to GetReading that Loader was frustrated, understandably so given how he was robbed of such a wonderful opportunity at the eleventh hour.
But, to Loader’s credit, he has made it clear that the Madejski faithful can continue to count on his full commitment in the months’ ahead.
While refusing to name Wolves directly, it is pretty clear that the ‘ambitious’ Loader was keen to make the step up with the Black Country giants. And why wouldn’t he?
Wolves are one of the most ambitious and exciting clubs in English football right now and, in Nuno Espirito Santo, they have a coach who loves to give youth a chance. Leander Dendoncker, Ruben Vinagre and Ruben Neves have all gone from strength to strength under the former Valencia boss.
But Loader has just one year left on his Reading contract and, should he continue his rapid progress in the Championship, there’s no reason why Wolves won’t be back next summer.
