Could Aston Villa regret not signing Daniel Sturridge?

Aston Villa were said to have made contact with Daniel Sturridge, but opted not to sign him.

According to the Daily Mail, seven clubs are now targeting Daniel Sturridge, after he missed out on a move to Aston Villa.

Villa made contact with Sturridge early on in the summer, but opted not to get a deal over the line.

Sturridge now looks set to move abroad with Marseille, Eintracht Frankfurt, Real Betis all said to be interested in him.


Villa may well regret not moving for the England international, as their forward choices look limited.

Villa signed 12 new players over the summer transfer window, which strengthened their squad hugely.

However, if there is one area where Villa’s squad could still do with some improvements it is up-front.

Wesley looks set to be Villa’s main striker, but he still needs to adapt to English football, and beyond that Dean Smith doesn’t have too many other proven options.

Jonathan Kodjia is waiting in the wings, and could start up top, but Sturridge would surely have represented an upgrade on him.

And even though there are question marks over Sturridge ability to stay fit, Villa could still regret not having made a move for him, if Wesley doesn’t hit the ground running.
