The Celtic captain conceded a penalty that contributed to the club’s exit from the UEFA Champions League.
Celtic have been knocked out of UEFA Champions League qualifying after a 5-4 aggregate loss against Cluj at Celtic Park tonight.
Four goals from the Hoops’ visitors broke the hearts of home supporters, with a 4-3 win on the night added to the 1-1 draw in Romania last week.
It was a roller-coaster evening, with Neil Lennon’s side going behind and ahead in the tie on multiple occasions.
Ultimately goals from James Forrest, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie weren’t enough to ensure progression to the next round.
The club will now drop into the UEFA Europa League play-off round for the second successive year.
One of the big turning points in the match was a penalty conceded by Scott Brown that was slotted home, bringing the Romanians back into the tie.
He strangely handled a high ball in the box, with the referee showing no hesitation and pointing to the spot.
It was a howler of a mistake and a lack of composure that fans are not used to seeing from their club captain.
Fans were understandably left absolutely fuming by the incident, with this lot taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
Scott Brown, what are you actually doing? Reckless.— Calum MacMillan (@CalumMac1997) August 13, 2019
Scott Brown absolutely taking leave of his senses. Long time we’ve seen that sort of thing from him. Absolute madness. Cannae believe it— King Jobbie (@kingjobbie) August 13, 2019
Scott Brown probably just did the worst thing in his football career. Dreadful penalty to give up.— Nuwanda (@ptime16) August 13, 2019
Absolutely criminal, Scott Brown— jamie kelly (@jamiekelly67) August 13, 2019
Next time Neil Lennon needs to fit Ntcham in the team hopefully he realises he can just drop Scott Brown.— Joshua (@jawshoeahhh) August 13, 2019
Scott Brown what are you upto man— Craig Barrett (@CraigBarrett_) August 13, 2019
Scott Brown has been howling all season & that handball just tops it off. He shouldn’t be in the starting 11 & sadly I think he’s at most a squad player.— GtheCrock (@CrockGthe) August 13, 2019
Scott brown should’ve been subbed at half time— Mikey (@MikeyDoherty) August 13, 2019
