Manuel Pellegrini's West Ham United side were beaten 5-0 on opening day, much to the frustration of the London Stadium crowd.
Optimism around the London Stadium had been built over pre-season, with the arrivals of Sebastian Haller and Pablo Fornals encouraging West Ham supporters.
However, many of the Hammers’ flaws were exposed by Manchester City on opening day.
City won 5-0 against Manuel Pellegrini’s men, with Anderson struggling to make any impact in the contest.
The Brazilian winger tried to suggest afterwards that West Ham should have played better.
"We have the quality to do much more, but we will keep on working and I’m sure things will be better soon,” he said.
But West Ham supporters were in no mood to listen to the comments, and criticised the £40 million signing (BBC Sport).
ANDERSON - lazy, ineffective and gave ball away cheaply, needs to be benched— Mac (@SS1Mac) August 11, 2019
Not great on Public Relations is he? Cliche after cliche, every time. How about matching the fan's feelings?— Harry Leave (@LeaveHarry) August 11, 2019
Be flipping angry at yourself and the ineffectiveness and what looked like laziness, lack of pace, and ideas.
Okay, we *might* at least match the next four teams.
We have to do more than talk the talk. Now walk the walk preferably run the run. Looked so unfit out there yesterday after 30 mins. We look so pedestrian compared to the teams.— Julie trudgill (@julie_trudgill) August 11, 2019
Bloody do it then!!!— andrew wickstead (@AndrewWickstead) August 11, 2019
Do much more then. Simple.— HereForFootball (@Jaykir3) August 11, 2019
Didn’t even know Anderson was playing... ♂️♂️— Kris Farrant (@Farrantino11) August 11, 2019
Just like half the season last year Anderson was missing.— Sign of the twine (@KevTwine86) August 11, 2019
Don’t say you can do it - DO IT. !!— Oldhammer (@RogerCaxton) August 11, 2019
There are high hopes of Anderson at West Ham this season, as he showed flashes of quality last term.
Anderson should now be fully adjusted to English football, and the hope is that he will be the key creator in West Ham’s attacking line-up.
The Hammers are next in action against Brighton & Hove Albion, where they will be looking to make up for their opening day disappointment.
