Steve Bruce replaced Rafael Benitez as the Newcastle United manager this summer.
The former Arsenal and Aston Villa star has stated that Bruce is a very good manager, and that Newcastle fans are missing the trick by not getting behind him.
Bruce was appointed the manager of the Magpies this summer following the departure of Rafael Benitez at the end of last season.
Merson said about Bruce on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Premier League (1:20pm, August 10, 2019): “I think he is a good manager, and I think they are missing the trick here, Newcastle fans, thinking they haven’t got a good manager. They have got a very good manager, a very good manager.”
Backing Steve Bruce
A number of Newcastle fans stayed away from the Premier League game against Arsenal at St. James’ Park at the weekend.
The protest was aimed more at Newcastle owner Mike Ashley than at manager Bruce, but those fans who did not want the former Sheffield Wednesday boss to get the job have to back him now.
Bruce is a very good manager, and under him, the Magpies can certainly stay in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has praised Bruce for taking the cup competitions seriously this season.
The Chronicle recently quoted the Newcastle boss as saying that the team will prioritise cup competitions this season.
Le Tissier said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Premier League (1:21pm, August 10, 2019): “I think that’s one of the best things he could have said as a Newcastle manager because I think that would be one of the huge frustrations (for) Newcastle fans over the last few years that they have not ever looked like they have taken them seriously.”
