Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 in their opening game of the new Premier League season.
A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Javier Manquillo’s performance during the Magpies’ 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Steve Bruce’s tenure began with a defeat, but there was some reason for encouragement as Newcastle held their own in tough conditions against Unai Emery’s men in a game that was settled by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal just before the hour mark.
Nevertheless, there appears to be plenty of Magpies supporters who want to see Manquillo dropped from the side that take on Norwich City at Carrow Road this coming weekend.
Manquillo actually looked lively getting forward, and did not seem to have too many issues when Arsenal looked to bear down on Martin Dubravka in the Magpies goal. But only a minority of Newcastle supporters appear to have been pleased with the full-back’s performance.
The large majority of the Toon Army have suggested that Manquillo is not good enough to be Newcastle’s first-choice option on the right, and have insisted that he needs to be left out of the team.
The Magpies signed Emil Krafth during the latter stages of the summer transfer window, and it appears that some would like to see the Sweden international handed a chance to make his debut after he was an unused substitute against the Gunners.
