Scott Dann started Crystal Palace's Premier League opener against Everton on Saturday but is he heading to Sean Dyche's Burnley?

Burnley are already planning to renew their interest in Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann in January, according to the Sun (11 August, page 59).

On the final day of the summer transfer window (8 August, page 53), The Sun claimed that Dann’s long-association with Crystal Palace could be coming to an end with Burnley lining up a £6 million move for the veteran defender.

By the time the clock struck 5, however, Dann was still at Selhurst Park. And he will stay there until the New Year.

But that doesn’t mean Burnley have given up just yet. Sean Dyche is already drawing up plans to lure the 32-year-old to Turf Moor in five months’ time with The Clarets a little short at the back.

Despite managing to fight off Leicester City’s advances for James Tarkowski and keeping Kevin Long out of the clutches of Nottingham Forest, Ben Mee and the out-of-favour Ben Gibson are the only other defenders at Dyche’s disposal.

And Dann’s experience and aerial presence would be more than welcome at Turf Moor.

Yet it remains to be seen what plans Crystal Palace have for the former Birmingham and Blackburn stalwart between now and the new year. Dann started as Palace held Everton to a goalless draw on Saturday but things could change once new signing Gary Cahill is up to speed.
