Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers are on the verge of signing reported Celtic target Brandon Barker.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed to The Daily Record that the Gers are on the verge of signing Manchester City winger Brandon Barker.

Gerrard has revealed that the 22-year-old winger is having a medical, with The Daily Record claiming that the City youngster should complete his move to Rangers on Friday.

The report has claimed that Barker – who has been earning £16,000 per week as salary at City, according to The Daily Mail – is available on a free, and Rangers boss Gerrard has confirmed that the youngster is about to join his team.

Gerrard told The Daily Record about Barker: “We haven’t signed Brandon yet. He is having a medical. It’s close.”

Celtic’s summer interest

It seems that Rangers have beaten their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic to the signature of Barker.

Back in June 2019, The Daily Mail claimed that the Hoops were looking at Barker as a potential replacement for Scott Sinclair.

It was reported at the time that there was uncertainty over the future of former Aston Villa winger Sinclair, and that Celtic manager Neil Lennon was look at the player he had worked with at Hibernian as a potential replacement.
