Following Sheffield Wednesday announcing the loan signing of Hamburg defender David Bates, a number of fans both of the German club and of Ibrox side Rangers took to Twitter to give their thoughts on what the Owls can expect from the Scotland international.

The Hillsborough outfit confirmed the move on transfer deadline day (official Owls website), the 22-year-old returning to the United Kingdom after making the switch to Germany last summer from Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Bates began his career with Raith Rovers but got his first experience of first-team football on loan with East Stirling, where he made 17 appearances during his maiden campaign, and then had another loan stint, this time at Brechin.

Rangers went on to bring the 6ft 4in ace to Ibrox in 2016, initially in their youth setup, and he made 28 senior appearances for the Light Blues, scoring one goal, according to Transfermarkt.

Bates then switched from Scotland to Germany in the summer of 2018 and, like his time at Rangers, made 28 appearances for Hamburg and scored once (Transfermarkt) for the second-tier side, and now he will look to help in Wednesday's quest for Premier League promotion.

Here is what some fans of his parent club and of his prior employers at Ibrox said on social media regarding their player's temporary switch to S6:

The official Bundesliga website has claimed that, although Bates has the nickname "Ginger Ramos", he has a style reminiscent of Bayern Munich ace and Germany international Niklas Sule.
