Alexis Claude-Maurice could be on his way to the Premier League with Norwich City reportedly set to make him their biggest ever signing.
Norwich City have offered a club-record £15 million for Lorient striker Alexis Claude-Maurice, according to Le Telegramme.
With just hours remaining in the transfer window, the Canaries look set to make a big money signing after snapping up Ralf Fahrmann, Josip Drmic and Patrick Roberts on free transfers and loan deals.
While 21-year-old Claude-Maurice is far from the finished article, he has undoubted potential. He scored 14 goals in his breakthrough campaign in Ligue 2 last season and has one in one to start the 2019/20 campaign.
Norwich’s current record signing is Steven Naismith, the skilful Scotland international who joined in a £9 million deal from Everton three years ago.
While Naismith was at the peak of his career when he made the move to Carrow Road, however, Claude-Maurice’s best days are yet to come.
In many ways, the France U20 international is a typical Stuart Webber signing, except for the price-tag of course. Norwich’s director of football is a master of uncovering unpolished diamonds from the European game, bringing Onel Hernandez, Marco Stiepermann and Emi Buendia to Anglia on the cheap over the last 12 months or so.
Claude-Maurice may be Webber’s most expensive signing but he could also be the most inspired.
