Could Scott Dann leave Crystal Palace to join Premier League rivals Burnley on transfer deadline day?

Burnley are interested in signing veteran centre-back Scott Dann from Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day, according to the Sun (8 August, page 53).

With Gary Cahill finally back in the game, signing a two year deal with Roy Hodgson’s Eagles earlier in the week, this could open the door for Dann to bring an end to his long spell at Selhurst Park.

The 32-year-old joined Palace from Blackburn Rovers all the way back in 2013 but he’s slipped down the pecking order after missing much of last season with a serious injury.

Dann still has plenty left to offer, however, and Sean Dyche would surely love to work with a player of his experience and reliability.

Claims from the Sun that Burnley could pay £6 million for a defender who will turn 33 in the next few months will certainly raise eyebrows but Dann could be a priceless influence both on and off the pitch at Turf Moor.

Strong in the air and a goal threat from set pieces, a move to Burnley could be exactly what Dann needs to prolong his career in the Premier League.

But what does this mean for the futures of James Tarkowski and Ben Gibson?
