Sheffield Wednesday's Lucas Joao

A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the news that Lucas Joao has left Hillsborough to join fellow Championship club Reading.

The fee is officially undisclosed (Owls website) but according to Get Reading, the Portuguese striker has joined for a fee believed to be in the region of £5million.

Joao joined Wednesday in the summer of 2015 and in October of that year was one of three Owls players on target in the 3-0 win over Arsenal to reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup (BBC Sport).

However, the 25-year-old marksman's time at Hillsborough has been somewhat inconsistent, with some great displays followed up by more frustrating performances.

In addition, he has netted double figures just once in his four full seasons at Wednesday, while his time at the club included a loan stint at Blackburn Rovers in 2017.

Here is how some Owls fans have reacted on Twitter to Joao's switch to Reading:

Joao made 128 appearances for Wednesday and scored 29 goals, including a late strike against the Royals on the opening day of the 2019-20 campaign at the Madejski Stadium.
