Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in signing Barcelona forward Philippe Coutinho.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘incensed’ by suggestions that Mauricio Pochettino has spoken to Philippe Coutinho.

Tottenham are interested in the Barcelona playmaker, but negotiations are not thought to be as advanced as some sources have reported.

There have been even been suggestions that Pochettino has personally rang Coutinho to try and encouraged him to join Tottenham, but Spurs are said to be angry about those rumours.

It adds yet another layer of intrigue to the suggestions that Coutinho could arrive at White Hart Lane soon.

If Tottenham do sign Coutinho it is expected to be on a loan deal and the Mirror suggest it would cost £21 million.

It is a transfer almost completely out of character for Tottenham to even be considering, but it could be a wonderful short-term addition.

Coutinho has previously proven himself in the Premier League, and he was one of the best players in England during his time with Liverpool.

With Christian Eriksen potentially leaving Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are on the hunt for another playmaker.

And if they did bring in Coutinho to replace Eriksen, even if only for a season, Spurs would arguably be making an upgrade.
