Jonathan Afolabi in action for Republic of Ireland U19s

Former Southampton striker Jonathan Afolabi is weighing up an offer from Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow, HITC Sport understands.

Afolabi is a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Southampton at the end of last season.

The 19-year-old rejected a new deal at Southampton and a number of Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in signing the forward.

However, Lokomotiv Moscow have now entered the race for Afolabi after his impressive performances for the Republic of Ireland at the recent the U19 European Championships where he was named in the team of the tournament.

Lokomotiv have tabled a four-year deal to Afolabi and they hope the opportunity to play in the Champions League will help persuade him to snub other offers to move to Russia.

The Russians are also offering Afolabi a quicker pathway to first-team football with the forward promised he will go straight into the side because of an injury to striker Eder.

Afolabi is now weighing up all his offers before making a decision as to what club he should join to continue his career.
