Leicester City are interested in signing Merih Demiral just weeks after Juventus signed him for £13 million, according to the Mail.

It is no secret that the Foxes need a defender before Thursday’s 5:00pm transfer deadline. Brendan Rodgers’ side reluctantly accepted a world-record £80 million bid from Manchester United for Harry Maguire this week, leaving a substantial hole in the heart of their back line.

But even with £80 million in their back pocket, finding a replacement has proved easier said than done.

More than aware that Leicester have just come into some considerable cash, Burnley are demanding £40 million for James Tarkowski. As a result, the Mail reports that Leicester are now scouring the European market in search of value.

And this could take them to Serie A.

21-year-old Turkey international Demiral only joined Juventus for £13 million two months ago after catching the eye at Sassuolo, as reported by Goal.

An aggressive, commanding centre-back who is quick across the ground and loves a physical battle, Demiral looks every inch a Premier League defender.

Leicester are keen, particularly if Juventus are willing to let Demiral leave on loan. Matthijs de Ligt, Leo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Daniele Rugani and Cristian Romero are all fighting for a place in Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI, meaning a short-term move away from Turin could be for the best.
