According to Tuttomercatoweb, Reading are leading Birmingham City in the race to sign Inter Milan forward George Puscas ahead of the upcoming transfer deadline.
The report claims Birmingham are pressing for his signature, but Reading have overtaken them in the running having offered a five-year deal to Puscas. The deal is said to be ready to close.
Reading are in the market for new players ahead of the deadline. The Royals have allowed fellow strikers Marc McNulty and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson to leave this summer, leaving a void to fill upfront.
The Royals started their Championship campaign with a 3-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and their lack of a cutting edge in the final third was evident as they struggled to convert chances against the Owls.
Puscas has only recently re-joined Inter Milan from Palermo. However, the Italian club may have acquired him only to look at selling him for a profit having previously had him on the books for five years.
The 23-year-old has a lot of promise. He is a full Romania international, netting four goals in eight games for his country, and last season he netted nine goas for Palermo despite their struggles on and off the pitch.
Birmingham are also likely to be looking at bolstering their striker options having sold Che Adams to Southampton earlier in the transfer window. The Blues, however, will need to act fast if they are to beat Championship rivals Reading to the signing of Puscas.
