Report: Watford expect to keep Abdoulaye Doucoure, value Everton target at around £50m

Head coach Marco Silva of FC Everton looks on during the Opel Cup 2019 match between FC Everton and FC Sevilla at Opel Arena on July 27, 2019 in Mainz, Germany.

Everton's late approach for the Watford midfielder is also said to be counting against them.

Watford expect Abdoulaye Doucoure to remain at Vicarage Road beyond Thursday's transfer deadline amid interest from Everton, according to the London Evening Standard.

Marco Silva is said to want a reunion with the midfielder he managed at Watford, and the Guardian reports that the Everton manager has already had a £30 million offer rejected.

But according to the Evening Standard, the £50m the Hornets wanted for Doucoure in the January transfer window is a 'fairer reflection' of their current asking price.

And there is little pressure on the Hertfordshire side to sell, having recently received £20m from Hertha Berlin for Dodi Lukebakio.

Dodi Lukebakio of Düsseldorf celebrates the win of the Bundesliga match between Hannover 96 and Fortuna Duesseldorf at HDI-Arena on December 22, 2018 in Hanover, Germany.

The Evening Standard also reports that the lateness of Everton's approach is another thing counting against them, with Watford left with little time in which to secure a replacement.

Everton sold another midfielder, Idrissa Gueye, to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, but have already added Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin in the Senegalese's position.

Idrissa Gueye of Everton arrives before the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Everton FC at the Selhurst Park on April 27, 2019 in London, England.

It means Doucoure could have his work cut out if he is to leave Watford for Goodison Park.
