New Everton signing Moise Kean has set himself a modest minimum target of scoring seven goals for the club this season, The Liverpool Echo report.

The former Juventus prospect, who moved to Goodison Park for a reported £29m (The Guardian), took a sensible approach when answering probing questions during a press conference on Tuesday.

Asked what his playing style is, the 19-year-old was selfless with his answer, telling the paper: “I like to help my team-mates and play as a team always giving 100% of my ability. It will be to help us reach our targets.”

The worry when signing a teenager for a large fee would be that they have gained too much success too soon and aren’t willing to put in the hard yards to be excellent teammates as well as individual players.

His arrival and past at the Italian giants makes him one of the most high profile players at the club already.

Kean’s comments though suggest that he is willing to build for long-term success at Everton, rather than make it all about him.

He was also willing to answer questions about what the targets he mentions are, telling The Echo: “For the team the objective and target is to do as much as we possibly can.

“My objective is to score as many goals as I can.

“I would say seven as a minimum but I am capable of scoring more.”

To a casual eye that may seem like a very low amount, but every goal scored in the Premier League is earned. As a minimum starting point for a teenager making the switch to a new country and a new league it’s more realistic than unnecessarily low.

Probably not coincidentally, seven is also the amount he scored for Juventus last season so clearly he wants that to be his baseline and build from there. Small stepping stones are the best way to develop as a player at the elite level.

There are no guarantees when it comes to Kean’s signing but his level head and sensible targets bode well for Everton.

This isn’t a player in the game for short-term gains and making bold pronouncements to hit the headlines.

Moving forward that attitude has a good chance to pay off for both Kean and the Goodison Park side.
