Leeds United should consider Derby County’s Jack Marriott, as they search for a replacement for Kemar Roofe.
Gayle would be a fine addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad, but the Whites must have a back-up plan, as it is clear that they need a forward and Marriott could be a great option.
Leeds fans need no reminder of Marriott’s quality, as he tore them apart at Elland Road in the play off semi final.
The Rams forward hit two goals as Derby beat Leeds in the promotion deciding contests, with his finishing prowess on full display.
Marriott did not start Derby’s opener against Huddersfield Town last night, and even though that was largely down to injury, his place in the team is hardly a certainty.
Derby already have Martyn Waghorn and Mason Bennett who can play up top, and they are set to bring in Wayne Rooney in the coming days, as reported by BBC Sport.
Rooney could, of course, play a central midfield role, but if he is signed to play up-front then Marriott may face dropping down the pecking order even further.
And Leeds should at least enquire to test whether Marriott would be available.
Marriott could offer Marcelo Bielsa’s side pace and a clinical finish if he was to sign up, and he looks to be the exact sort of striker that the Yorkshire side need if Roofe does depart.
