Aston Villa have been the busiest team in the transfer window this summer.

Dean Smith has stated that he is looking to add more new signings to his squad but warned that ‘everything has to line up’ for more deals to take place.

The Villa man also excitingly shared that there has been a ‘competitive edge’ in training recently, as a result of the club’s 12 new signings, who along with others, are all vying for starting places.

From some quarters of the media, there has been negativity at Villa spending over £100 million and signing 12 new players following their promotion.

But according to Smith, it has actually taken training to another level, which would no doubt please the Villa Park faithful ahead of their season opener at the weekend.

“We are still looking,” Smith told AVFC’s official YouTube account. “We have got some players that we still like, but everything has to line up for that to happen. I’m happy with the squad that we have got, at the moment.

“Yes, there are areas where you feel you can strengthen, but there’s a competitive edge about training, at the moment because there are competitions for places in all positions as a coach that’s what you want.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Villa add another striker to their ranks before Thursday’s cut-off point, with perhaps another winger needed also.

Even though Villa have players that can fill those positions, an extra pair of legs would be helpful as Smith’s side take on Tottenham this Saturday.
