Dundee United manager Robbie Neilson admits he’s not surprised to see young midfielder Scott Banks linked with a move away from the club amid alleged interest from Leeds United and Crystal Palace, while speaking to the Courier.
At the age of just 17, speculation is rife surrounding the future of a player who has already established himself at the heart of the Tangerines’ engine room.
According to the Daily Record, Crystal Palace have offered £400,000 for the teenager, who has also caught the eye of Leeds, Southampton and even Premier League champions Manchester City.
Not that rumours about Banks’ future have left Neilson taken aback.
“I would be surprised if there wasn’t interest in quite a few young boys. Whether that report (about Banks) is true I don’t know as I haven’t heard anything about it,” said the former Hearts and MK Dons boss.
Southampton scouted Banks, Dundee United’s reigning Academy Player of the Year, as he produced a Man of the Match performance in a 3-0 thrashing of Cowdenbeath in July’s Betfred Cup clash, according to the Sun.
And given that Ralph Hasenhuttl has a fine record when it comes to blooding young talent, think Timo Werner, Yan Valery and Naby Keita, St Mary’s could be the perfect platform for Banks to shine.
Though you could say the same about Leeds United coach Marcelo Bielsa. And Pep Guardiola for that matter.
