Reported Aston Villa target Neal Maupay could be heading to the Premier League, but not to the Midlands.

Aston Villa fans are wondering whether Dean Smith has something else up his sleeve as it seems as though they are losing out on reported target Neal Maupay.

French outlet L’Equipe have claimed that Brentford hitman Maupay has signed a four-year contract with Brighton as they are seemingly beating interested parties Villa and Sheffield United.

Maupay worked with Dean Smith at Griffin Park last season before the Englishman moved to Villa Park and helped them earn promotion to the Premier League.

But it seems as though they won’t be reuniting at Villa as their supporters are hoping there are other options for the club before Thursday’s deadline.

There are some Villa fans that aren’t happy that they won’t seemingly be signing Maupay because they made it clear that they need a player of his quality in their squad.

Summer signing Wesley is Villa’s main striker going into the new season, with Jonathan Kodjia and youngster Keinan Davis also as options.

Scott Hogan is also at the club, but he was on loan at Sheffield United towards the second half of the last campaign and has struggled during his time in the Midlands.

Therefore, another attack-minded player is needed, and the Villa Park faithful are well aware of that.
