Newcastle United could reportedly make a move for Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe in the final stages of the transfer window.
According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle are interested in Jordon Ibe with Bournemouth considering making the winger available in the final stages of the transfer window.
After an eventful start to the summer, the Magpies are now managing to bring new signings into St James’ Park, with Steve Bruce making four additions to the squad that he inherited from Rafa Benitez.
It appears that Bruce is hoping to make some more before the window shuts. The Sun reports that he wants Everton midfielder James McCarthy, and it is also suggested that Newcastle are considering making a move for Ibe.
The report adds that the 23-year-old may be available this summer. But considering that Bournemouth broke their club record to sign him from Liverpool for £15 million in 2016 (via BBC Sport), it would be no surprise if Eddie Howe’s men wanted to see a substantial fee offered before they allowed him to go.
It looks to be the kind of deal that Newcastle fans may have their reservations about. Ibe has shown promise at the Vitality Stadium, but he has struggled to live up to the expectations so far.
In 19 top flight appearances last term – just nine of which were starts – he contributed just one assist and scored one goal. He did provide six assists the year before, but it certainly does appear, at this stage, that Liverpool got the much better end of the deal.
If the Cherries are willing to take a significant hit on the winger, then he may be worth the gamble for Newcastle. But he would arrive with a massive point to prove if the Magpies paid a similar price for Ibe in the final days of the window.
