A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to respond to Kalvin Phillips' message ahead of the opening day of the campaign - with many looking past the clash with Bristol City and simply willing the midfielder to sign a new contract at Elland Road.

Phillips has become something of a talisman for Marcelo Bielsa's side. He has been a revelation in the holding role, and looked incredibly impressive in pre-season as Leeds look to go one better than last year this time around.

Unfortunately for the Whites, Phillips is attracting plenty of attention. The Sun on Sunday (4/8; page 67) reports that both Burnley and Aston Villa want to offer the 23-year-old the chance to make a move to the Premier League, and Phillips is prepared to run his contract down and reassess his options next summer.

BBC Sport reported last month that Leeds are in talks with Phillips over a new contract. So it would have come as no surprise to the academy graduate that his future was a major talking point for the fans when he posted on social media.

The midfielder took to Twitter to express his excitement about the start of the new season - which, for Leeds, starts at Ashton Gate and a tricky game against Lee Johnson's men - but the fans seemed more concerned about his contract situation.

Plenty of fans have pleaded with Phillips to put an end to speculation over his future by signing a new contract before the transfer deadline, insisting that he could become a legend by staying and helping Bielsa's men back to the top flight.
