Aston Villa produced a superb display to beat RB Leipzig last night.
Aston Villa’s pre-season preparations came to an end on Saturday, and they’ll have been delighted with a 3-1 win at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Villa have been impressive in pre-season under Dean Smith, and took the lead at Leipzig as Conor Hourihane opened the scoring with a free kick.
Yussuf Poulsen got the hosts back on level terms, and with Tom Heaton enjoying a stunning debut for Villa, Hourihane scored another free kick to make it 2-1.
John McGinn then rounded off the scoring with a third, handing Villa a quite remarkable win, and the perfect preparation for next weekend’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Smith will be delighted with the display, and the continued form of winger Jota, who he signed from rivals Birmingham City this summer.
Jota didn’t pull up trees at Birmingham but did impress under Smith at Brentford, and their reunion is so far working well.
The Spaniard faces his first Premier League campaign this season, and he produced a superb piece of skill against Leipzig, fending off tackle after tackle no matter how many defenders came at him.
Villa defender Frederic Guilbert saw the video on Instagram, and amazingly responded suggesting that Jota is his ‘low cost Messi’ thanks to his diminutive stature, dribbling ability and great left foot, and Villa fans will be hoping he lives up to that name this season.
