What happened to Zoella? YouTube sensation is still busy!

Zoella

YouTubers continue to make the headlines, but where has Zoella gotten to?

"Mummy, I wanna be a YouTuber!"

Increasingly, more and more kids are wanting to make their name on the popular video site, much to the frustration of many parents. With YouTube as a career in mind, it's easy to see why some students may be discouraged from pushing themselves academically. If they have a hobby, the site teases to make them a star.

Arguably, you don't even need a hobby. Many successful channels are built on random videos, with no consistency in content. Certain people could make a video of them eating ice cubes and thousands, millions even, would tune in to watch it. Why? Because they are invested in the individual; the people at the heart of the channel.

You may not necessarily be interested in what they're talking about, but you're interested in them nonetheless.

A YouTube sensation

There are so many examples we could draw from, but we're here to talk about Zoella.

The 29-year-old Zoe Elizabeth Sugg - or Zoella, rather - is an English YouTuber, vlogger, businesswoman and author, as her Wikipedia page so proudly demonstrates. The same source notes that her first book - Girl Online - broke sales records for debut authors when it was released back in 2014.

She holds a great deal of influence on social media too, but it was YouTube which saw millions of fans flock to her content. Currently, she has a staggering 11,718,325 subscribers, which means that approximately 11,718,325 subscribers are probably wondering what happened...

What happened to Zoella?

The last video she posted to her channel was on Saturday, June 23rd 2018 titled 'Ultimate Pizza Taste Test With Mark | Zoella' and sees the two of them comparing and contrasting different brands of pizzas.

It doesn't sound all that exciting or original, and yet, the video currently boasts 2,150,563 views. Why? Because it's Zoella!

If you're able to attract that many viewers by eating pizza, we'd say you're pretty much living the dream, so it's pretty odd that the YouTuber has vanished from the channel since. It's hardly the summit of her work; "right guys, for my final farewell, let's talk about pizza!" Of course not, but still, there must be answers.

Well, in her absence, she published the book Cordially Invited in October 2018 and while busy with her beauty product range - Zoella Beauty - since 2014, she announced she'd be ditching the brand, along with Zoella lifestyle, earlier this year in March 2019. They'll both be discontinued sometime in 2020. She has been subject to controversy and criticism in recent years, admittedly.

She's still been very busy though - just not with YouTube! She collaborated with ColourPop Cosmetics on a new range earlier in the year, and she also co-developed an app with Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman called Filmm, which went live on Thursday, May 9th 2019. It allows you to add different textures, effects and themes to your videos.

Time for a change?

So, since her absence from YouTube, we've seen her work on apps, books, make-up and make some pretty big decisions with her brand.

Fortunately for fans, she remains a presence on Twitter; follow her here at @Zoella. The same goes for Instagram, where you can find her, again, at @Zoella. She posts about her activity, interests, spotlights others' work she admires and interacts with fans.

Many declared that she was too old for the YouTube game, which some felt played into her departure. However, it's clear she's just been busy pursuing other projects and perhaps taking a break to help see things more clearly.
