The 30-year-old, who held a similar role during his time alongside Hasenhuttl at RB Leipzig, was recruited by the Saints shortly after the Austrian took the reins last December following Mark Hughes's departure from St Mary's Stadium.
According to the report, which is as yet unconfirmed by Southampton - on website or social - as of Wednesday afternoon, Rohl has left the club this summer and has returned to Germany, with the reasons still "somewhat of a mystery" but with Hasenhuttl "untroubled by the development".
In addition, it has been reported that the Saints manager will not be looking for a replacement following the "unexpected development" as he feels his new-look coaching line-up will provide him with all the support he needs as things stand.
Here is what some Southampton fans said on social media regarding the reported development at St Mary's:
If Ralph's cool with the current set up, I'm unconcerned.— Lucy Highnett (@lucyhighnett) July 31, 2019
Ralph's taking a lot on his shoulders at the moment, hope he is not going to burn himself out.— GregB (@GB95934873) July 31, 2019
That’s my concern, he only took a 2 week holiday, is soooo intense and has the details finely tuned... I mean maybe it means the likes of KD steps up more? But I really don’t want Ralph to burn out.... we need him!— JBsRednWhiteSFC (@SailorGirl30) July 31, 2019
This seems bad? Or if not bad at least not good. I thought Rohl was a very highly thought of coach?— Dan (@arathkone) July 31, 2019
Slight alarm bells going off— Gazzyhüttl (@MrGToYou) July 31, 2019
Always need an assistant. Hope he knows what he’s doing.— (@we8pompey84) July 31, 2019
Any idea why? Strange that they are not giving any reasons as to why he left ♂️— Andy Davis (@andydavis1978) July 31, 2019
This is weird— Sean (@sean_stroud) July 31, 2019
Shame. Hope it doesn’t affect Ralph.— Debbie (@SFC_Debs) July 31, 2019
Never very comfortable having 2 goalies as 1st team coaches, but to be fair, I was also very worried when we appointed ex goalie Nigel Adkins.. and he proved possibly the best coaching decision we made in history.— James McConachie⚓️ (@JMcConachie) July 31, 2019
Trust in Ralph and I’m sure this ain’t a Cloughie / Taylor situation... better not be— 1885theartof (@1885theartof) July 31, 2019
Thanks to Danny Rohl for his time at #saintsfc. Don't really care as to why he left, but wouldn't be suprised if he had his own managerial aspirations. If that is the case, Germany is a better place than England. All the best, Danny.— Andrew (@andrew_h2k19) July 31, 2019
Im sure there is a suitable reason why Rohl has gone, with that being said it is slightly worrying how much Ralph has praised him before but im sure he will do just fine without him and have a suitable replacement if he feels he needs one #saintsfc— Jamie (@jamie17saints) July 31, 2019
Southampton have one more pre-season friendly this summer, against FC Koln, before getting their Premier League campaign under way with a trip to Burnley.
