Marvin Ekpiteta in action for Leyton Orient

Rotherham United have lodged a £300,000 bid for Leyton Orient defender Marvin Ekpiteta as they look to strengthen their defensive options before the close of the transfer window, HITC Sport understands.

Rotherham are desperate to bring in a new central defender to replace Semi Ajayi following his departure to West Brom earlier this summer and Ekpitea has emerged as their top target.

Ekpiteta has emerged as a target for a number of Football League clubs after impressing for Leyton Orient last season.

The 23-year-old made 40 appearances in the National League last season, chipping in with six goals to help Orient win promotion back to League Two as champions.

Ekpiteta is entering the final year of his contract at Orient and Rotherham are hoping to test their resolve to keep hold of the defender with a £300,000 bid.

Orient are keen to keep hold of Ekpiteta before next week’s transfer deadline as they do not want to lose one of their star players as they prepare for life back in the Football League.
