Heidenheim striker Robert Glatzel is reportedly heading to the Championship with Cardiff City, Boro and Brentford all interested.

Middlesbrough and Brentford are set to miss out on Robert Glatzel with Cardiff City set to seal a £5.5 million bid for the Heidenheim striker, according to the Mail.

With the Championship season just days away, three of the league’s promotion-chasing sides are crying out for a new centre-forward.

Cardiff sold star striker Kenneth Zohore to rivals West Brom earlier in July while Middlesbrough are yet to enhance a forward line who mustered just 49 goals in 46 games across 2018/19.

Brentford, meanwhile, are yet to lose the prolific Neal Maupay but it would still be a big surprise if the fiery Frenchman was still leading the line at Griffin Park this time next month.

And, according to The Mail, all three have been watching Glatzel of late on the back of his 17 goal season for second-tier Heidenheim. The 6ft 3ins centre-forward even notched a famous hat-trick in a thrilling 5-4 DFB Pokal defeat to eventual Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich.

But Cardiff are on the verge of completing a £5.5 million deal for the German. He could even have a medical in South Wales on Tuesday.

Not only will this fill a Zohore-shaped hole in Neil Warnock’s attack, it should also give Cardiff a big advantage over both Boro and Brentford in what looks set to be another close-call at the top of Europe’s most competitive and unpredictable division.
