Sabri Lamouchi made Portuguese midfielder Tiago Silva his first signing at Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson believes new signing Tiago Silva has already made a big impact at the City Ground, calling the Portuguese midfielder a ‘great player’ in conversation with talkSPORT (29 July, 8.30am).
Silva became Sabri Lamouchi’s first signing since he replaced Martin O’Neill in the Forest dugout this summer, joining from Feirense on a two-year deal.
The 26-year-old remains an unknown quantity in English football but his confidence on the ball and ability to receive and dictate possession in tight places should help Lamouchi introduce a more technical style after the old-school pragmatism of O’Neill.
And, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports’ Breakfast, veteran centre-back Dawson is tipping Silva to have a fine debut season on English shores.
“He’s a great player,” said the former England international.
“He gets on the ball, he plays in the (number) ten (role), plays as a (number) nine, and he looks good.”
Nottingham Forest certainly had more perspiration than inspiration in central midfield last season with the likes of Ben Watson, Jack Colback and Ryan Yates providing plenty of energy and tenacity rather than the ability to unlock opposition defences.
But if Silva adapts to life in the Championship and forms a telepathic understanding with compatriot Joao Carvalho, the likes of Lewis Grabban should not be short of goalscoring chances in the coming months.
