Leeds United were one of the Championship sides reportedly interested in Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

According to a report from The Sun, Arsenal plan to keep Emiliano Martinez at the Emirates this summer after both Leeds and Blackburn Rovers decided against making a decent offer for the goalkeeper.

The Whites have been linked with signing a new stopper during this window. Kiko Casilla endured a tough start to life in the Championship, and his erratic performances towards the end of the campaign played their part in Marcelo Bielsa's side squandering their promotion chances.

Meanwhile, their second rivals had been on the lookout for a new number one after surprisingly deciding to sell David Raya to Brentford earlier in the window.

Rovers have however, since landed Christian Walton on loan from Brighton, while Casilla looks set to remain Leeds' first-choice at the start of the coming campaign after featuring prominently during pre-season.

The Sun suggests that both clubs had an interest in landing Martinez from the Gunners, but they failed in their pursuit of the 26-year-old with neither willing to put a significant offer in - and thus, he is now set to remain at Arsenal.

Martinez would be a good signing for any Championship team looking to land a goalkeeper this summer. He has had four loan spells in the division, with the most recent coming at Reading during the second-half of last season.

He may be somewhat frustrated that he looks set to spend the campaign as an understudy in Unai Emery's side. But with the transfer deadline rapidly approaching and the new season about to start, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see a possible opportunity opening up elsewhere, or Arsenal being willing to let him go while they are short of options.
