Newcastle United lost 2-1 to Preston North End on Sunday.

Newcastle United's pre-season preparations continued on Saturday afternoon, falling to a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End at Deepdale.
The Magpies travelled to Lancashire ahead of the Premier League restart in two weeks, and did take the lead as Jonjo Shelvey's free kick deceived goalkeeper Declan Rudd.
Newcastle then brought on new signing Joelinton at half time, and he instantly showed his ability as he won a penalty within seconds of his introduction, only for Rudd to save Miguel Almiron's spot kick.
It all fell apart for Steve Bruce's side after that, as Jamie Sterry handled Tom Clarke's cross, allowing Paul Gallagher to score from the penalty spot.
Joelinton's afternoon had a strange turn as he brought down Patrick Bauer, giving Preston a second penalty, and Gallagher again scored to make it 2-1.
The Lilywhites held out for the win, but Newcastle fans have now been given their first showing of Joelinton in what was a mixed game for the Brazilian.

Newcastle's record signing arrived from Hoffenheim just days ago, and whilst he will naturally get a better understanding with his new teammates, Magpies fans appear to be encouraged.
Fans took to Twitter to praise Joelinton for a lively debut, believing he made a great impression, showing 'glimpses of excellence' whilst having a strong work ethic, all of which is hugely exciting for Newcastle supporters.

On the plus side, excellent two touches from Joelinton to win it.

Absolutely mate. Need to give everyone an opportunity to gel, none of this chopping and changing anymore.

Promising display by Joelinton today. He was looking lively and won a penalty with his first touch. He also had an impressive work rate. #NUFC

Won penalty with first touch after sharp turn, some very nice first-time touches and drops of the shoulder.
Linked well at times and helping build attacks from false number 9 role and also tracked back well.#NUFC pic.twitter.com/qF1FbSEIlR
Definitely need a few more signings, a right back desperately needed, another winger and striker. Joelinton looked very impressive, big guy, good feet and workrate, will be a fan favourite. #nufc
