A Leeds United XI took part in a friendly against Girona on Saturday, and it was the Whites who came out on top.

A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to laud Jack Harrison’s pre-season form as he rounded off his summer with an assist and a goal as a Whites XI beat Girona in Manchester on Saturday.

While Marcelo Bielsa took a strong squad to Italy to face Cagliari on the same day, there were a handful of key players left behind to take on the Spanish second tier side, including Harrison, Stuart Dallas and Gjanni Alioski.

It was one of the young players who broke the deadlock with Clarke Oduor staking his claim to be involved in Bielsa’s plans during the coming season. It was Harrison who set up the goal with a nice pass.

The winger – who seemed to play up front – then got on the scoresheet in a game that Leeds went on to win 3-2. It was Harrison’s third goal of the summer, and it is clear to many that he is threatening to be a completely different player during the coming campaign.

Scott Brown and an emotional Celtic farewell

The 22-year-old only showed glimpses of his quality during his first loan spell at Elland Road last season. And while the jury is still largely out until he plays against Championship opposition, there is a lot of optimism about the impact he could make this year.

With Pablo Hernandez, Helder Costa and Jack Clarke all in Bielsa’s ranks, Harrison appeared to face a fight for his place. But with pre-season done and dusted, it seems that no-one in the Leeds squad has enjoyed a more beneficial summer than the young winger.
