Tottenham sold Kieran Trippier this summer and Spurs are reportedly not planning to sign a new right-back.
A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts on a report by Sky Sports News suggesting that Spurs will not be signing a new right-back this summer.
Tottenham sold England international Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid earlier this month in a reported £20million deal (BBC Sport), the 28-year-old calling time on his Lilywhites career following more than 100 appearances for the North London club.
Although Trippier’s performances came under criticism by a number of Tottenham fans from time to time, the departure deprives Spurs of an experienced right-back, though Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters can play in that position.
Foyth is suspended for the start of the Premier League season and Aurier has seen his pre-season delayed due to his international duties with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations – nonetheless, Sky Sports News has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is happy going forward with the aforementioned players at right-back.
The report has been met with a mixed reaction by a number of Tottenham fans on social media – here are some of the comments:
So the players who were behind the player that was sold because he was awful are now first choice and Poch is happy about this? Doesn’t bode well really.— Harry Carlton (@HarryCarlton55) 27 July 2019
All of us were ”insulting” Trippier because he was bad and we wanted a new class RB.— Elsa (@QueenOfNWHL) 27 July 2019
We give Trippier to Atletico and now we don’t buy a proper RB ? I trust in Poch, but sometimes he doesn’t do the right thing imo.
And don’t buy a class RB can be one of this.
Why? Such an awful decision— Harry C (@HazSpur92) 27 July 2019
Not great but to be fair what better right backs are out there? The only real options have never played in the PL.— Woody (@stumpyspurs) 27 July 2019
Im fine with that— Shaun Lewis (@ShaunLewis17) 27 July 2019
Not good enough – Trippier was ahead of these guys last year. How are they going to make us better in that position?— Daniel McBride (@danmcb10) 27 July 2019
This is a mistake— Glenn Sears (@GlennSearsTHFC) 27 July 2019
3 years ago Pep Guardiola said if only he had our wing backs at City. He signed one of em for 50 million. If Rose goes i guarantee you he wouldn’t be interested in what we have left at all!!!!!. 3 years we have gone from best wing back about to no being left with the worst!.— A watson (@Awatson20539059) 27 July 2019
We are doomed— Vadim Motyka (@vvmotyka) 27 July 2019
Terrible decision— Shannon Morgan (@ShannonMorgz11) 27 July 2019
And we’ll suffer because of it— TOTTENHAM TILL I DIE (@MattTHFC1882) 27 July 2019
Dani alves 1 year deal get it done. Sell aurier, he has a red card/mistake and pen give away in him every game. Kwp should of been giving more match time last year. He doesnt seem ready to play 25+ games.. especially big games— Hallman (@Hallman123) 27 July 2019
Terrible decision if true.— DonMaurishio (@MayureshForever) 27 July 2019
I think Foyth could do well in time… the problem is how much time do we have to use.— Benedict (@Benedict_FPL) 27 July 2019
KWP isn’t good enough it’s remains to be seen if Foyth is. Our full backs are a weak link.— George (@GEORGIE_35) 27 July 2019
Tottenham have two pre-season friendlies left – against Real Madrid and Inter Milan – before their Premier League campaign gets under way with new-boys Aston Villa visiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 August.
