The Hoops winger and Bhoys cult hero has found game time hard to come by at Parkhead recently.
A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the speculation suggesting that Scott Sinclair is a transfer target for English Championship side Preston North End.
One report in the Glasgow Evening Times claims that Lilywhites boss Alex Neil is weighing up a £2.5million offer for the 30-year-old winger, who is yet to start a game for Neil Lennon's side this pre-season.
Another report in the Lancashire Post, meanwhile, has suggested that Preston - who are said to be seeking a replacement for Callum Robinson - have been in touch with Celtic regarding a potential loan deal for Sinclair, which was purportedly knocked back because the Hoops want to sell him.
Here is some of the social media reaction from the Hoops faithful to the reports linking Sinclair - valued by Transfermarkt at £3.6million - to North End:
If he goes, he goes a legend.— Gazzarinho (@gazzarinho1) 26 July 2019
Celtic invincible player of the year
Always a bhoy Scotty son
Couldn't agree more. Believe his performances in his first season made other players up their games— RumoursCeltic (@RumoursCeltic) 26 July 2019
His form hasn’t been anywhere near his first season, but he’s still good for at least 15 goals a season. I say keep him— Swed (@Swedleypops) 26 July 2019
Scott's stats have been brilliant for us 153 appearances and 60 goals, not including assists. If he goes he'll be soarly missed.— Tam Rodgers (@timtam1888) 26 July 2019
The goals he scores are worth more to Us than 2.5 mill even if he’s not gonna start every game— kennybhoy (@kennycollins82) 26 July 2019
You could spend 10 Million and still not get a Winger to score the amount he has in 3 seasons. Plus he deserves his chance this season the rise of Mikey could be what Sinclair's needing to get that hunger back— AJ (@Joker___87) 26 July 2019
Snap their hands off for it— Spiorad Na Saoirse (@Mon_The_Hoops81) 26 July 2019
Preston North end,he's better than that ffs— john white (@stormbringer43) 26 July 2019
Another example of why clubs think scotland is a joke. 2.5 mill for one of the best players in scotland at the moment. #YourHavingALaugh— Andy Peters (@AndyPeters316) 26 July 2019
Why sell him and keep Hayes Morgan etc Whilst he has never repeated his sensational first season his goals and assists are going to be hard to replace Our squad is inferior at minent to one that finished season Anyone saying its been good window is deluded— robert crilly (@CrillyBobc) 26 July 2019
A fantastic player for us, SS if you go you leave a Celtic hero and I for one wish you well HAIL HAIL Scott— Wullie (@twatter_beef) 26 July 2019
Sinclair has endured a mixed spell at Parkhead since his switch from Aston Villa for £3million in the summer of 2016 (The Guardian), winning the PFA Scotland Player of the Year in his first season (BBC Sport).
The Englishman was also voted the Hoops' Player of the Year by both teammates and fans that season, but since then he has struggled to recapture that form, though Celtic nonetheless triggered a one-year extension in his contract in May.
Sinclair came on as a substitute in both legs of Celtic's Champions League qualifier against Sarajevo earlier in the month, scoring in the first leg against the Bosnian & Herzegovinan side, but was left on the bench as the Bhoys beat Estonian side Nomme Kalju 5-0 on Wednesday night.
