According to the Daily Express, Steve Bruce has changed his mind about signing a central midfielder for Newcastle United.

Before Bruce took the job he was of the opinion that Newcastle needed to add in the middle of the park.

However, Bruce has now sat down with Isaac Hayden and reportedly changed his mind about leaving.

Bruce has also convinced Jonjo Shelvey to stick around at Newcastle, and Matty Longstaff has emerged as a potential option after a brilliant pre-season.

Bruce now reportedly feels that Newcastle are well stocked in midfield, and has changed his mind about needing additions in that area of the field.

That could be a risky decision, as Mo Diame’s departure means Newcastle are shorter on numbers in midfield than they were last term.

And if Bruce does have a spate of injuries, then he could live to regret not pushing on with signing another central midfielder after all.
