Walsall captain George Dobson could replace Lee Cattermole at Jack Ross’s League One title-favourites Sunderland.

Sunderland are closing in on another signing after agreeing a fee for Walsall captain George Dobson, according to the Chronicle.
After a frustrating start to the transfer window, the wheels are in motion at last at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats have a striker at last, signing Marc McNulty on the back of his prolific spell at Hibernian in the second half of last season.
And it seems that one of the most effective box-to-box midfielders in the lower leagues is on the verge of joining McNulty on Wearside.
According to the Chronicle. Sunderland are set to finally sign Dobson after coming to an agreement with recently-relegated Walsall over the former Arsenal and West Ham United youngster.
The Saddlers captain at the age of just 21, Dobson really caught the eye with his tenacious performances in the centre of the park last season. Comparisons with the departed Lee Cattermole are as understandable as they are inevitable.

What’s more, Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has confirmed to the Express and Star that the League Two outfit have accepted an offer for their star man, while stopping short of confirming that Sunderland have won the race.
Personal terms and a medical are now all the stand in Sunderland’s way of signing a midfielder who could have a major impact in red and white next season.
