Aston Villa continued their superb start to pre-season with an emphatic win, with Jota playing a starring role.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to Jota’s performance during Dean Smith’s side’s pre-season win at Walsall on Wednesday – with many struggling to get over the robbery they have got away with by landing him from Birmingham City.

Jota became the Villans’ first signing of the summer earlier this month. It was a deal that caught many off-guard with the Spaniard enduring a disappointing spell with the Blues.

But it is becoming apparent that the deal for the playmaker – which cost Villa just £4 million, according to the Daily Mail, with Gary Gardner heading in the opposite direction – could be the club’s biggest masterstroke of the summer.

Jota is looking more like the player who was devastating at Brentford. And he provided further evidence that he could be a revelation during the coming season, with an outstanding display as Villa won 5-1 against the Saddlers.

He scored twice and set up Wesley with a gorgeous pass. The 28-year-old was linking up brilliantly with Frederic Guilbert, as well as with Jack Grealish in the middle of the park.

And unsurprisingly, plenty of Villa fans are mocking Birmingham for sanctioning the deal that saw Jota head to Villa Park. It is looking like an absolute steal, and the supporters cannot wait to see what impact he may be able to make when the Premier League campaign starts next month.
