Diaz spent two seasons on Leeds United’s books, appearing just once at first-team level.

The freed Leeds United defender Hugo Diaz appears to have joined Getafe after leaving Elland Road.

Diaz’s Leeds deal wasn’t renewed at the end of last season, which was his second at the club.

But despite having appeared just once for the Whites at Championship level – a 33-minute cameo against Preston North End in April 2018 – he could now find himself playing La Liga or even Europa League football for Getafe.

Diaz’s move was ‘announced’ on Twitter by a man purporting to work for Bahia International – the agency that represents the 22-year-old, according to Transfermarkt.

He wrote: “A beautiful stage ends in Leeds United and another one that will surely be full of success in Getafe.”

And another Bahia client, Alberto Leira – who played with Diaz in Deportivo La Coruna’s Under-19s – later substantiated the claim.

He tweeted: “Good luck in your next stage at Getafe. I’m sure you’re going to smash it!”

Diaz’s former Leeds teammate, Samu Saiz, spent the second half of last season on loan to Getafe.

But the Madrid-based side failed to activate their option to sign Saiz on a permanent basis, and he later joined Girona instead.

It is likely that Diaz will begin his Getafe career as his Leeds spell ended – a level below the first team.
