Toby Alderweireld reportedly has a release clause in his contract which will seemingly expire on Thursday.

Paul Ince has urged Manchester United to sign Toby Alderweireld this summer rather than Harry Maguire.

The Telegraph report that clubs have 48 hours to meet the £25 million release clause of Spurs defender Alderweireld.

The Belgian is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, with Man Utd looking for players to add quality at the back for them this season, with Maguire high on their radar.

Speaking to the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live, Ince made it clear that United need to go for Alderweireld instead because he has ‘all the attributes’ in his locker.

“If I was sitting in the Manchester United dressing room now, that’s exactly what I would be doing,” Ince told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Alderweireld has been fantastic for Tottenham.

“I wouldn’t say that Harry Maguire is a better player than he is. It’s less money. It’s experience. It’s a good deal all day long for me.

“Alderweireld has been in the Premier League for god knows how long. Pace wise, you rarely get past him. He can play. He brings the ball out from the back. He can tackle and he’s tough. He has all the attributes you’d want.”

United had numerous problems all over the pitch last season, with their defence being one of their main areas of concern.

But it seems as though Leicester’s man at the back, Maguire could be heading to Old Trafford pretty soon, as reported by the Mirror.

Nonetheless, given the reports of Alderweireld’s reported buy-out clause, it is pretty staggering that no-one has come in to try and sign the experienced defender.
