Glasgow Rangers drew their latest pre-season friendly, with Jermain Defoe scoring for the Scottish Premiership side at Ibrox.

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to laud Scott Arfield’s performance during their latest pre-season friendly, and express their concern about how much he was missed once he left the pitch in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

Arfield was handed the chance to make his first start of the summer by Steven Gerrard, who would have been hoping to see his side build on their comfortable Europa League win in midweek.

Blackburn provided tougher opposition however, and the Gers could only manage to draw the contest at Ibrox. Jermain Defoe had broken the deadlock during the first-half as he got onto the end of an outstanding Jordan Jones cross.

Arfield was one of four players who were replaced on the hour-mark. But the changes proved to be somewhat costly as Blackburn equalised within five minutes. And it is clear by the reaction on social media that many felt that the Light Blues – who wore their away kit for the game – were nowhere near as impressive without the Canada international and Steven Davis in the middle of the park.

Arfield ended last season in brilliant form as he formed a superb partnership once given the chance to play just behind Defoe in a number 10 role. And it appears that he is ready to pick up where he left off.

Several fans were extremely pleased with what they saw from Arfield – who was jeered by the visiting supporters having spent a considerable part of his career with Burnley – and are expecting the 30-year-old to play a prominent role in the side once again this coming season.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to Arfield’s first pre-season start…
