Bailey Peacock-Farrell has sent a message to former Leeds teammate Andy Lonergan on Twitter after the goalkeeper started Liverpool's latest pre-season friendly.
Everyone seemed to be caught off-guard by the announcement that the Reds would be taking Lonergan on their pre-season tour of America due to their shortage of options between the sticks.
Lonergan went into this summer as a free agent after being released by Middlesbrough. But he has now linked up with Jurgen Klopp's men. The Liverpool Echo reports that he is not in line to earn a contract, but he could be kept on for a training camp in Evian.
The 35-year-old was given the chance to start against Sevilla, and he certainly did not disgrace himself in the 2-1 defeat. In particular, he made a brilliant stop to deny Luuk de Jong before being replaced by Simon Mignolet at half-time.
And after Lonergan's wife took to Twitter to express her pride at seeing the goalkeeper play for the Reds, former Whites teammate Peacock-Farrell sent his own message of support...
The pair spent the latter half of the 2017/18 season battling it out for the number one spot at Elland Road, with Peacock-Farrell getting his chance after both Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald struggled during their stints between the sticks.
Lonergan showed his class by telling BBC Radio Leeds in May 2018 that he was getting as much pleasure out of seeing Peacock-Farrell do well as number one as he would have done had he been in the youngster's position (read more here).
It appears that the roles have been somewhat reversed with Peacock-Farrell now delighted to see Lonergan get his chance.
