Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Daily Record that he will wait until the last second of the transfer window to sign Ryan Kent if he has to do so.
The Gers have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in Filip Helander, George Edmundson, Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, Jake Hastie, Sheyi Ojo, Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart.
Gerrard won't be in the market for many more signings, and the attention will surely switch to getting some players out of Ibrox before the transfer window slams shut.
One player that Gerrard will want at Ibrox though is winger Kent, who spent last season on loan from Gerrard's former club Liverpool.
Kent impressed with Rangers last season, notching six goals and six assists in the league, whilst also picking up the SFA Young Player of the Year award.
The 22-year-old is back at Liverpool for now, and with both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah unavailable due to their Africa Cup of Nations commitments, he's been featuring for the Reds in pre-season.
Now, Gerrard has revealed that he'd be willing to wait until the very last second of the transfer window to re-sign Kent, believing that he's an 'exception' in that he's worth waiting for.
Gerrard noted that he hasn't spoken to Kent for a while, as he's respecting Liverpool’s decision for now, but still holds out hope of an Ibrox return for the winger.
“Am I willing to wait until the last day of the window for Kent? I’m willing to wait until the very last second to get Ryan back here,” said Gerrard. “He’s an exception because he was outstanding for us last year. I feel he’s ready to go again, with the confidence he should have from last season. But we’re still talking about a player who belongs to Liverpool. They’ll make the decision on him and we’ll be totally respectful to the club and Jurgen.”
“Everyone knows I want him back and I’ll give it until the last second. I haven’t spoken to Ryan in a while so we’ll wait patiently to see if he wants to come back and respect Liverpool’s decision,” he added.
