The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper ensured that the Premier League Asia Trophy will be heading to Molineux this summer.

A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter following the Molineux club’s Premier League Asia Trophy win over Manchester Citt to praise goalkeeper Rui Patricio for his impressive performance in between the Wolves sticks.

The Portuguese was busy from the off against the Premier League champions, called upon to deny Raheem Sterling after less than two minutes on the clock before pulling off a reflex save to keep out Aymeric Laporte’s close-range attempt.

Patricio then suffered a facial injury in the first half while saving at the feet of Sterling, who minutes later had the opportunity to open the scoring from the penalty spot after Leroy Sane was brought down, only for the England ace to sky his spot kick over the bar.

The 31-year-old stopper did not let the injury faze him, making save after save to ensure his side went in level at the break, and near the end of the game, he kept out David Silva’s dangerous free kick to ensure that the scoreline remained goalless at full time.

It was the penalty shootout in which Patricio saved his best for last, however, keeping out spot kicks from Ilkay Gundogan, David Silva and Lukas Nmecha as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won the four-team pre-season tournament.
