Glasgow Rangers could potentially see Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty leave Ibrox this summer.
Glasgow Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has stated that he wants the Ibrox club to bring in a new striker amid speculation surrounding the futures of Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty (Glasgow Evening Times).
According to the Daily Record, Eintracht Frankfurt sent a scout to watch the Colombia international against St Joseph’s in the Europa League and now Rangers are “bracing themselves” for a bid.
Lafferty, meanwhile, made 20 appearances for Gers last season, scoring four goals, but in the second half of the season he found game time hard to come by and was often on the bench or excluded from match squads altogether.
Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart look set to remain at Ibrox next term but Johnstone is concerned as there would be little in terms of squad depth, especially if Morelos and Lafferty go, as the youngsters would be in line after them.
The Light Blues legend stresses that the Ibrox club cannot afford to be left short in the final third, and although he feels the remainder of the squad is well stocked, he insists a new centre-forward should be on the club’s shopping list.
“If anything is going to happen with Morelos, hopefully it happens sooner rather than later so that the manager has a chance to bring someone else in to play through the middle,” Johnstone wrote in the Evening Times.
“Rangers will have someone in mind and that is the only issue that could come up in what is left of the window and I still think we need another man through the middle.”
