The Rams ace scored a hat-trick against the Brewers in their pre-season friendly.

A number of Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Martyn Waghorn’s hat-trick and impressive performance in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Burton Albion, to the Rams claiming the Bass Charity Vase trophy with a 5-2 triumph.

The Pride Park outfit opened the scoring on 16 minutes as former Rangers star Waghorn converted on the rebound after Kieran Dowell’s initial effort was parried by ex-Rams goalkeeper Stephen Bywater.

Burton found an equaliser through John Brayford but Waghorn edged Phillip Cocu’s side back in front in the 28th minute with a powerful 25-yard effort, before completing his hat-trick by heading home Jayden Bogle’s delivery before the break.

Mason Bennett and Scott Fraser added goals for Derby and Burton respectively before Rams youngster Max Bird’s effort with virtually the last kick of the game completed the scoring and added gloss to the scoreline.

Whilst it was a good team performance, the match ball belonged to the hat-trick hero and a number of Derby fans took to social media to express their delight at what they’d seen:

Waghorn made 44 appearances last season following his arrival at Pride Park in the summer and went on to score 14 goals and claim 4 assists in 44 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.
